Bagged salad spinach sold at Stop & Shop has been recalled due to potential salmonella contamination.
The recall includes Dole Spinach 8 oz. bagged salad with an "enjoy by date" of Oct. 15.
Stop & Shop said the salads have a UPC of 7143000976 and are coded A27409B and A27409A.
The company said it received no reports of illnesses.
However, it said contaminated food can cause salmonellosis, which can be a life-threatening bacterial infection for those with weak immune systems like infants, the elderly, those with HIV or chemotherapy patients.
Common symptoms include diarrhea, abdominal cramps and a fever within 72 hours. Additional symptoms may include chills, headache, nausea and vomiting that can last up to seven days.
Customers who have bought the salad should discard it and bring the purchase receipt back to Stop & Shop for a full refund.
