A Hartford mother was arrested on Thursday after police she left her children home alone and was found to be in possession of illegal drugs.
Members of the Hartford Police Vice and Narcotics unit were executing a search warrant at apartment on 389-391 Albany Ave. because a woman with a loaded gun was selling illegal drugs.
Inside the home, police located two boys, ages eight and 11, alone. The boys’ mother Rhonda Arnum was located a short distance from the home, police said.
"The 11-year-old could have gotten it, been playing and then accidentally shot the other one," said Arnaryne Parker of Hartford.
Police also seized narcotics, a loaded firearm and money from the home. It is unclear if the firearm was obtained legally.
Arnum was arrested and charged with improper storage of a firearm, possession of narcotics, possession of narcotics with intent to sell and two counts of risk of injury to a minor.
She faced a judge on Thursday.
Arnum has nine previous arrests by the Hartford Police Department. Last year she was convicted on two larceny charges.
The Department of Children and Families was notified about the arrest and the incident.
Arnum is due back in court on Nov. 24.
