Shoppers at the Wasilla Carrs were greeted with a special surprise around 8:30 a.m. Thursday as a young moose found its way into the store.
According to one witness, Ema Kate, who was shopping with her daughter at the time, there was a brief commotion and people saying, “I think he’s gonna come in! I think he’s gonna come in!”
As Kate continued to check out, she looked over to see a young moose had taken advantage of the automatic doors and let itself into the entryway of the store. That’s when she turned on her cellphone’s video camera.
One of the Carrs employees then stood in front of the open automatic doors, trying to block the moose from gaining further entry.
“It tried to walk right into the store, so she stands in front of the door to try and block him out,” Kate described in a phone interview. “I tried to bang a trash can in order to get him to go away.”
She said the moose seemed fairly relaxed as it sniffed Halloween decorations, even attempting to take a few bites.
“He tried to nibble on some of the decorations, but they were all plastic,” Kate said.
She estimated the moose drew a crowd of around 50 onlookers as it hung out in the entryway for about 5 to 10 minutes and then eventually left.
