A crash shut down the westbound side of Interstate-84 in Vernon and left one person seriously injured on Tuesday morning, according to state police.
I-84 westbound was completely shut down after a 2006 Tacoma pickup truck collided with another vehicle near exit 64 around 4 a.m.
State police identified the victim as Kane Jellison, 33, of Tolland.
Jellison, who police said was not wearing a seat belt, lost control of his vehicle “for an unknown reason” and “rolled over several times.”
After being extricated from the vehicle, Jellison was transported to St. Francis Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. There were no passengers inside his vehicle.
Troopers closed the highway at exit 65 and traffic was diverted around the accident. That area was closed for the morning commute, about 4:30 a.m. to 9 a.m.
Drivers told Eyewitness News there isn't too much you can do about the crash and the traffic delays
"As a bystander like myself, just being effected by the traffic, you just need patience and you deal with it,” Kerri Peterson, who works in Glastonbury, said.
Anyone with information about what happened is asked to call state police at 860-896-3200, extension 8094.
