A group of heroes, of an Army National Guard aviation unit based in Groton, are being deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan.
A ceremony was held for the 65 men and women on Tuesday evening in Windsor Locks.
They will leave for Kuwait and Afghanistan in a few days, and will be gone for about one year.
As sad as their families are, they are just as proud because they know the importance of the work their loved ones are doing.
The unit will help make sure the Army’s airplanes and helicopters are running smoothly.
This unit, which was last deployed in 2012, will also help support soldiers from 14 different states.
One soldier said this time will be much more difficult because he is now a father.
“It's rough, especially with him. My last deployment I didn't have him so it's going to be my first time actually leaving him for an extended period of time,” said Sgt. Kenny Sousa.
This is the fourth Connecticut Army National Guard unit that has been deployed this year.
