HARTFORD, CT (AP) -

A Connecticut man will serve 17 years in prison for stealing firearms from a Massachusetts gun factory and selling many of them on the street, including some used in crimes as far away as North Carolina.

Elliot Perez of Bridgeport was sentenced Tuesday in federal court in Hartford. He pleaded guilty last year to conspiracy to possess and sell stolen firearms and other charges.

Prosecutors say Perez stole the guns from the Smith & Wesson plant in Springfield in November 2012 and sold them in Bridgeport with Michael Murphy, who pleaded guilty and faces sentencing Friday.

Prosecutors say Perez, a truck driver, stole the guns while picking up a delivery from the plant.

U.S. Attorney Deirdre Daly says one stolen gun was used in a Bridgeport murder and another in a Hartford shooting.
