OMAHA, NE (WFSB) -

A 33-year-old woman sneaked into a zoo in Nebraska to pet a tiger, according to police.

Officers in Omaha said Jacqueline Eide got into the Henry Doorly Zoo on Sunday and when she reached the cage, she was bitten and suffered severe trauma to her hand.

They posted some information about it on their Facebook page.

Eide was transported to a nearby hospital by a friend.

When police arrived to investigate just before 7:30 a.m., they said Eide showed signs of intoxication of alcohol and/or drugs.

Officers said they contacted zoo officials.

The zoo also posted a statement to its Facebook page.

“The safety and security of our guests and animals are always a priority at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium,” said Dennis Pate, Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium’s executive director and CEO. “We will continue to keep security a top priority for Zoo guests and animals."

Eyewitnesses reported that the wounds to Eide's hands were so bad that she might lose parts of her fingers.

Police said the incident remains under investigation.

Eide was cited for criminal trespass and remained hospitalized for treatment.

Police said she has prior convictions for drunk driving, graffiti, disturbing the peace, obstruction of justice and shoplifting.
