MIDDLEBURY, CT (WFSB) -

An elderly man was found lying in a pool of blood on Tower Road in Middlebury on Tuesday morning, according to police.

Officers were called to the report of an elderly man lying in a driveway in the area of 41 Tower Road around 6:30 a.m.

"A neighbor called it in. Officers arrived on scene. They found an elderly gentleman suffering from apparent trauma," said Middlebury Police Chief James Viadero.

The unidentified man was pronounced dead at the scene by police.

Police said the man’s death is being ruled suspicious.

"We don't get a lot of criminal activity out here so that's what makes it even more unusual," Viadero said.

An autopsy will be conducted on the man’s body to determine the manner and cause of death.

Tower Road was closed for the police investigation. Residents are being asked to check with officers before being allowed on their road.
