STRATFORD, CT (WFSB) -

Surf Avenue in Stratford was closed after police said two officers were injured in a motor vehicle crash on Thursday morning.

The crash was reported near Stagg Street around 11 a.m.

Police confirmed that the officers suffered "non-life-threatening" injuries. Police did not release the officers' names.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Bryce Laister, who was reportedly driving "erratically" after crashing into a parked car and fleeing the scene.

The vehicle had a blown out tire and the car swerved and crashed into a police car.

Police said Laister ran from the scene on foot but was caught by a bystander.

Laister was charged with driving an unregistered motor vehicle, misuse of a marker plate, no insurance, and operating with a suspended license, evading responsibility and reckless driving.

During the crash, police said a dump truck was overturned and a police car was heavily damaged.

Surf Avenue was closed for about six hours.
