CHESHIRE, CT (WFSB) -

A group of teens out of Cheshire is learning about a life of giving and compassion by living it through random acts of kindness.

With donuts, coffee and a colorful bouquet in hand, four teens started their Thursday in an unexpected way at the Alzheimer's Resource Center in Southington to surprise the nursing staff.

The youth group at the Calvary Life Family Worship Center in Cheshire is making the rounds with random acts of kindness.

"We just wanted to give you guys’ coffee and donuts to show how much we appreciate your work,” the teens said.

“I'm just amazed actually that they're here and really thrilled,” said Eileen O'Connor with the Alzheimer's Resource Center of Connecticut.

But, their act of kindness didn't end there. The group asked the nurses to give the flowers to one of their residents.

“It was really wonderful that they thought of that,” O'Connor said. “That was like one more touch."

The teens told Eyewitness News they believe that a single, simple gesture can have a lasting impact.

“It just takes that one person to really kind of set the motion and get everything moving, so that someone else can do the same thing as well,” said Ashley Morin with the Redline Student Ministry

Calvary Life Family Worship Center Youth Director Carlos Toro said he hopes that giving back will become a lifestyle for his youth group. He added showing them how more than a responsibility is, it's his calling.

“It's awesome to be able to get a group of young people to go out into the world and just shed love, just spread love wherever we can,” Toro said.

These acts of kindness are funded through church donations and sometimes the teens and their parents pay for them as well.
