HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -

Election Day isn’t over yet for some fifth grade students from across the state are voting in another close race for an important job.

Connecticut’s Old State House is overseeing the election for the first ‘kid governor.’

"We want to help kids realize the connection between how government works and the importance of working with your government,” said Brian Cofrancesco, of Connecticut’s Old State House.

Fifth grade students from 21 schools are learning how government works by running for office.

The winner will be part of a program at the Old State House where they’ll have an office after they are inaugurated in January.

The competition ends on Friday for the seven finalists who posted their platforms online.

"We had no idea, we didn't know what kind of topics, we didn't know if kids would be into this and they chose some really important issues, a variety of issues,” Cofrancesco said.

You can watch all of the videos online from each candidate for Connecticut Kid Governor, but all of the voting will happen in the fifth grade classroom by Friday.
