WINDSOR LOCKS, CT (WFSB) -

The casino plan is not dead yet.

Windsor Locks may have another say in whether there should be a casino in their town.

The town, and a handful of other towns, were considering a third casino in the state after lawmakers allowed the Mashantuckets and the Mohegans to build a third, as they are worried about job losses when MGM builds a casino in Springfield.

However, two weeks ago, two republican selectmen killed the proposal to have a casino at Bradley International Airport.

However, this week’s election has changed things. One of those republicans lost to a democrat, and now democrats have the majority in town.

Chris Kervick, a democrat, was elected this week to replace outgoing First Selectman Steve Wawruck, who also favors keeping the process moving.

Both feel the fair thing is to let voters decide.

"What I want do is give the chance to begin those discussions so we can find out more about the proposal, particularly for the town of Windsor Locks --what the benefits will be,” Kervick said.

In order to keep the process going, they have to submit a proposal, which is due in less than 24 hours, and they don’t have one so they are asking for an extension.

Friday is the deadline for all cities and towns to submit a proposal. Roughly six towns are interested, including East Windsor and East Hartford.

"It should be up to the people - if they want it they should have it, if they don't they don't,” said Jasmine Diaz, a Windsor Locks resident.

Windsor Locks will ask for an extension but the process is far from over.

The tribes will be the ones who ultimately decide where the casino will be and then the legislature has to approve that.
