A 21-year-old man was arrested after police said he led police on a high speed chase in Bridgeport early Monday morning.
Officers were trying to stop multiple motor vehicles “preparing to illegally street race” in the area of Route 8 and Route 25 around midnight.
When officers arrived, the lights and sirens were used to disperse the crowd. However, police said a white Buick Lacrosse with Virginia plates being driven by Wladimir Arce sped away and was “swerving across all lanes of the highway.”
Officers got in front of the vehicle and tried to stop the Lacrosse on the side of the highway. But, when the officer got out of his vehicle, police said Arce “dipped around the officer and drove off.”
The chase continued on the highway with the Lacrosse reaching 120 mph.
Eventually, officers were able to get the license plate number of the vehicle and called off their chase.
After the chase, the vehicle was found parked near the corner of Center Street and Harral Avenue. Arce turned himself into police.
Police determined that the vehicle was rental and Arce’s father had rented the Lacrosse.
Arce was charged with taking vehicle without owner’s permission, interfering with police, failure to maintain lane, reckless operation and failure to have lights lit.
Arce is being held on $10,000 bond.
