A family in need can rest a little easier thanks to a delivery from the Channel 3 and Liberty Bank SurPRIZE Squad.
The squad journeyed to the home of Lisa O’Leary in Brooklyn.
According to her friends, O’Leary is a mother to seven children, six of which are young enough to still be living at home. Three were adopted and two are her nephews.
The children range in age from 20 to 2.
On top of the busy life she leads, O’Leary said she’s been dealing with her 10-year-old daughter’s medical issues.
Novalea has cerebral palsy and just recently had surgery.
“We just take it day by day,” O’Leary said. “There's always something new. She's got a lot of other issues that we work with. We just deal with it as it comes.”
O’Leary was nominated by her friend, Tammy Stafford of New London.
“I'm very glad Channel 3 was able to step up and help her,” Stafford said. “She deserves it. Her kids deserve it.”
The squad learned that the bunk beds belonging to O’Leary’s boys were starting to fall apart.
“It was like coming really loose and it's still kind of shaky,” O’Leary said. “So they've been sleeping on the floor.”
Inside a delivery truck that accompanied the squad were bunk beds donated from Ashley Furniture of Manchester.
In addition to the beds, the Liberty Bank SurPRIZE Squad presented her with a gift certificate to a nearby department store.
“That will help with Christmas, definitely,” O’Leary said.
The family is trying to raise money for a van that accommodates their 10-year-old with cerebral palsy and her six other children. To donate to her GoFundMe page, click here.
