A convicted sex offender was arrested after police said he was caught exposing himself to women while riding on a Metro-North train this week.
Juan Baez, of New Haven, was charged with public indecency on Thursday. But, the complaint to the MTA police actually goes back to late May.
According to the police report, Baez was on an early morning train out of New Haven. When the train was five minutes out from Bridgeport, a woman told police Baez exposed himself and started touching himself while looking at another female passenger.
"I screamed at him and told him to put his penis back in his pants. He told me he was fixing his pants. I told him I was calling the cops,” the court documents stated.
Baez was arrested for public indecent in October 2013 after two women told police he did the same thing in front of them on a train.
Just ten days ago, Baez was picked up by New Haven Police Department for failing to register as a sex offender. He has a long criminal history including arrests for sexual assault, assault and burglary.
"He should be in jail. It shouldn't be a second time,” train commuter Nikisha Gilliam, of Bridgeport, said. “After the first time, it shouldn't keep happening."
Thousands of commuters count on Metro-North every day and plenty are pleased to hear that Baez would not be on a train anytime soon.
"It’s very disturbing,” Gilliam said. “There's children, teenagers that take trains to high schools, college up there, so it’s worrisome."
In court, the judge ordered not only medical, but also mental health attention for Baez.
His next court date is Dec. 8.
