A Simsbury student has been expelled after marijuana-laced brownies were distributed on a school bus during a class trip last month.

Board of Education members voted that the student be expelled for one calendar year, however the board will provide an alternative educational opportunity for that student.

The incident happened during a field trip for some 11th grade students who were headed to Salem, Mass.

The field trip is an annual one that goes hand-in-hand with the reading of "The Crucible."

The pot-laced brownies were being distributed to only some students, who had all been identified after the incident, officials said.
