WOLCOTT, CT (WFSB) -

Wolcott police have charged a woman with 59 counts of animal cruelty.

Cheryl McMurray, 53, was arrested and is now not allowed to possess cats or dogs.

Her arrest is related to the dozens of cats found in the home on Finch Road in October.

Last month, more than 40 cats were seized from the home, and many of them were special deliveries from Egypt.

Police called it an “unsafe situation.”

After neighbors complained, animal control paid the homeowner a visit earlier this year. But conditions weren't bad enough for them to get involved. When bags of feces started being left outside, they had to step in.

All of the cats were taken to a local vet to be checked out and treated. Then authorities were expected to look into finding them good homes.

McMurray was released on a promise to appear. Last month, police said the home is not livable and needed to be thoroughly cleaned.
