Man arrested for robbing Vernon bar

VERNON, CT (WFSB) -

Police in Vernon arrested a man for allegedly stabbing a person at a bar after robbing the place.

Gene Kelly, 43, fled the scene of the Rockville Tavern around 10:45 p.m. on Thursday.

Police said he committed the robbery with a kitchen knife and fled on foot with some money. A fight ensued and a patron ended up getting stabbed as Kelly was trying to get away.

Another patron ended up following Kelly with his vehicle and struck the suspect twice with the vehicle.

Kelly was eventually found hiding at 164 West Main St., according to police.

He was charged with first-degree robbery, carrying a dangerous weapon and sixth-degree larceny.

Police said his bond was set at $250,000.
