A person who had custody of an abandoned dog has been found, but whether that person will face charges remains unclear, according to police in East Windsor.
However, they said they are still investigating the unidentified person's actions in connection with the gray female pit bull recently found in a wooded area off East Road.
They said they are looking at whether the person, who was not the dog's owner, violated Connecticut's Cruelty to Animals Statute.
Police said they expected to release more information as their investigation continues.
They said it was the media and social media that helped them track the person down.
The dog was found laying on a pink blanket in the woods. She was unable to walk and clearly had medical issues, according to police.
The town's animal control officer responded and rushed the dog to the Enfield Animal Hospital. However, police said her problems were simply too great. That's why she had to be put down.
Police said the medical issues were not from abuse and that it was clear someone wanted her to be found.
They said there is an abandonment charge, which is an infraction. They're still investigating the circumstances.
