Search for suspect causes lockdown at Woodbridge schools

WOODBRIDGE, CT (WFSB) -

All Woodbridge public schools were placed in lockdown on Friday morning while police were searching for a suspect in the area.

Police were searching for a suspect near the intersection of Amity Road, which is known as Route 63, and Center Road, which is known as Route 114, around 11:30 a.m.

Police said the investigation started after the vehicle of a suspect wanted in connection with a homicide was located in the parking lot of the Amity Road delicatessen on Amity Road in Woodbridge.

In the motor vehicle, police located a woman, but no man.

Police from Woodbridge, New Haven, Seymour and Orange along with the Connecticut State Police started searching the area for the suspect.

The schools were notified by police and asked to go into a “heightened mode of security.” . Investigators told the administration that they were searching for a suspect and wanted the schools to “shelter-in-place.”

No one was allowed to leave or enter the buildings.

Jewish Community Center was also told to “shelter-in-place.”

The “lock-in/shelter in place” mode was lifted within an hour when the suspect was located in the woods off Litchfield Turnpike near Bishop Drive around 12:30 p.m. The suspect, whose name was not released, was taken into police custody.    

There is no word if police located the suspect.
