Meriden police are investigating a crash that happened early Sunday morning leaving one person dead.
The crash happened along Old Colony Road near Gypsy Lane and the Walnut Grove Cemetery around 2 a.m.
Police said 19-year-old Hector Sanchez, of Meriden, was killed in the crash.
The car Sanchez was driving struck several trees and caused the car to split in half.
Family and friends continued to grieve at a memorial late Sunday night where the crash happened.
Sanchez's mother, Madeleine Sanchez said that the huge turnout shows how much people loved her son.
"He was just a great kid, a loving son, a loving brother," Madeleine said.
Hector had recently graduated from Maloney High Schools and worked at a nearby Footaction store. He enjoyed collecting sneakers and working on cars, but what he loved the most were his friends and family.
"I don't even have any words," Madeleine said.
Madeleine said her son's death left a hole in her heart. Her only consolation is that she knows Hector knew how much he meant to her.
"That I love him, that I always did and he will always be in my heart. That I know he's in heaven," Madeleine said.
Old Colony Road was closed for several hours as crews investigated what may have caused the accident.
Police are still looking into what caused the crash, one family members believe he may have been speeding.
A GoFundMe account has been set up to help with the costs of the funeral. If you would like to donate to Hector's family you can click here.
