Customers of Webster Bank are being warned about a texting scam that is targeting them.
Webster Bank wants customers to know that their “critical systems and customer data remain secure.” However, a texting scam or phishing attack, which is known as “Smishing,” is targeting customers of the bank.
“We are aware that some Webster Bank customers have been targeted by a texting scam that appears to be similar to several recent industry attempts. Webster’s critical systems and customer data remain secure," the company said in a statement.
Any customers, who receive a text saying they are from Webster Bank, is asked to delete it and not follow of the provided links.
“It is important to remember that reputable organizations will never request personally identifiable information or confidential account information via email or text,” Webster bank said in a statement on Monday.
Webster Bank officials said they working to remove the “fraudulent websites” in order to “protect Webster and Non-Webster customers alike.”
This type of scam happened to customers of People's United Bank recently. The message was similar, asking customers to verify account and PIN numbers.
Anyone with questions is asked to call the customer care center for Webster Bank at 1-800-325-2424. For those who get the message, the bank is warning customers to not follow any links attached.
