Naming winter storms is a WFSB tradition that dates back to 1971, and the days of the Travelers Weather Service.
This is a tradition that Channel 3 is proud to carry on today.
Blizzard Larry in 1978 and Winter Storm Charlotte in 2013 were both notable events in Connecticut weather history, and easy to remember since they all have names.
This season's list has been revealed, and the theme is first names of former first ladies, as the political stage is heating up.
Starting with ‘A’ is Anna, who was the wife of President William Henry Harrison. At the age of 65 she is the oldest woman to become first lady.
Next is Barbara, who is the wife of the 41st President George H.W. Bush.
Caroline will follow, who was the first lady when Benjamin Harrison was president. She was a founding member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Dolley was the wife of James Madison, who helped define the role of first lady and will be the name for the letter ‘D’.
Eleanor, as in Eleanor Roosevelt, will take the fifth spot on the list. She was the longest serving first lady at just over 12 years.
Following Eleanor is Florence, who was the wife of President Warren G. Harding, the 29th president. She was known as a duchess.
For the letter ‘G’ is Grace, who was the wife of Calvin Coolidge and was a former teacher at the Massachusetts School for the Deaf.
Helen is next and was the wife of William Howard Taft. She was not only first lady but was the only one to be wife of a chief justice.
Ida is next and her husband was William McKinley. She was the country’s 25th first lady.
To round out the top 10 names for the season is Jacqueline, as in Jackie Kennedy Onassis.
