Two 19-year-old men from New Haven were arrested after police said they stole copper from former site of the Hamden Middle School on Wednesday afternoon.
Officers were called to a “report of a burglary in progress” at 550 Newhall St. around 1 p.m.
A town employee told police that he saw Brandon Walker and Jabraun Hines leave school and “immediately re-enter it.”
Police said Hines and Walker had cut several pieces of copper piping and copper from inside of the school. It was placed near a set of doors.
Hines and Walker were charged with third-degree burglary in the 3rd degree and sixth-degree criminal attempt to commit larceny.
There were two arrest warrants originating from Hamden and New Haven for Hines.
Both men are scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Dec. 11.
