A crash involving a tractor trailer caused a big backup on Interstate 84 west in Farmington on Monday afternoon.
DOT officials said the right shoulder and the right lane are closed between exits 38 and 37 after a crash around 1:45 p.m.
A tractor trailer went off the highway near exit 39 and its saddle tanks were damaged in the crash, according to the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. The tanks released diesel fuel, which has” impacted ground soil,” DEEP added.
The DEEP’s emergency response unit hired ESI to clean up the fuel from the tanks and after the truck is removed, “the soil excavation will be assessed.”
Soil will be removed from the area after rush hour or Tuesday. DEEP crews remained on the scene Monday evening.
It is unclear the impact of the fuel spill.
The truck’s driver was taken to a local hospital where their condition was not released by police.
It is unclear what caused the crash or how long it will take to clear.
