The iconic holiday tree on the New Haven green will officially be lit on Tuesday night.
Mayor Toni Harp said she's set to preside over the city's annual tree-lighting ceremony, which starts at 7:15 p.m.
Officials called the event, which is presented by Peoples Bank, the kick off of the holiday season in the downtown area.
The event will feature live performances and a number of children's activities, including visits with Santa, photos with Elsa and Anna from Frozen and carousel rides.
The free visits with Santa are also scheduled to continue beyond Tuesday's festivities. Starting Saturday through Dec. 19, children can see St. Nick, enjoy horse and carriage rides and sit atop a Ferris wheel from noon until 4 p.m.
The events were made possible by the City of New Haven, Mayor Toni Harp and Board of Alders, New Haven Department of Arts, Culture & Tourism, New Haven Department of Parks, Recreation and Trees, Market New Haven, Economic Development Corporation of New Haven, the Town Green District, CAPA, New Haven Free Public Library and The Shops at Yale.
