Connecticut split in terms of holiday budgets

Posted: Updated:

It appears Connecticut is split when it comes to holiday budgets.

The personal finance website WalletHub released its list of cities ranked in terms of 2015 holiday budgets.

Three Connecticut cities ranked in the top 100 in terms of having higher end budgets.

Stamford, at 39th, had a per-person budget of $1,494. At 72, Norwalk’s budget was $1,279. Danbury was 96 at $1,187.

Further down on the list was 450th Bridgeport at $603, 464th New Haven at $563, 490th Waterbury at $517 and 524th Hartford at $429.

WalletHub said it used data from its partner, TransUnion, to calculate the maximum holiday budgets for 563 U.S. cities to give consumers a better sense of their spending range.

According to the National Retail Federation, holiday spending is expected to be high this year. The average per-person tab is expected to reach $805.65, which is up from $802.45 in 2014.

Those extra couple of bucks is a big deal, according to CardHub, especially when considering an estimated collective credit-card debt of $60 billion by the end of the year.
