Riders of Metro-North can expect to pay a little more for their tickets on the first of the year.
The state Department of Transportation said a fare increase of 1 percent goes into effect on the Connecticut portion of the New Haven Line on Jan. 1, 2016.
The DOT said it's the fifth of seven consecutive annual increases they requested to help finance the M8 cars that were put into service in recent years.
The increase affects ticket prices between Connecticut and New York stations and between Connecticut stations.
The DOT said some fares may not actually change due to rounding since its such a small percentage.
The change will not affect travel to and from stations within New York State.
