The Channel 3 Liberty Bank SurPRIZE Squad kicked off its month full of holiday giving this week.
It partnered with Walmart in Cromwell to brighten the holidays for a widowed grandmother of five children.
For the first 2015 holiday mission, Walmart allowed the squad to take a peek at Maribeth Mead’s “wish list,” which was created through the retailer’s smartphone app.
Mead, of Middletown, thought we were doing a story on the app itself when the squad approached her.
She said she was on a tight budget after losing her job, but she agreed to speak on camera.
“This is really nice because you can share with everyone,” Mead said. “That makes shopping easier.”
Through the conversation, the squad said it learned how selfless she is.
“I really don't have anything on my wish list,” Mead said. “Well, I would probably get a flat-screen TV because I don't own one.”
After Mead was done scanning, the Liberty Bank SurPRIZE Squad revealed its true purpose.
It was making her grandchildren’s wish list come true.
“Oh my God!” she said.
The squad pushed the convoy of carts to the register.
As Mead continued to process the surprise, she didn’t realize that there was more to come.
That’s when the squad pushed over her new TV.
