SOUTH WINDSOR, CT (WFSB) -

A man in South Windsor is accused of being involved in a crash, fleeing and then returning to the scene to retrieve a piece of a broken bumper.

Police said 25-year-old Gary Deming struck the vehicle on Nov. 27.

They said a man on a motorcycle returned to the scene a few minutes later and left with a plastic bumper cover that had fallen off the evading vehicle.

Police said they later located the bike, but the operator fled.

Investigators later figured out that Deming was the suspect involved and obtained an arrest warrant for him.

They said they charged him with tampering with evidence, interfering with an officer, evading responsibility, reckless driving, operating a motor vehicle while his license was suspended, no insurance and a number of other motor vehicle infractions.

He was released on a $50,000 bond and scheduled to face a judge on Dec. 17.
