Inmate dies during fight at Enfield Correctional Institution

ENFIELD, CT (WFSB) -

An inmate has died during an fight with another inmate at the Enfield Correctional Institution on Friday. 

At about 3:11 p.m., correctional staff responded to a non responsive inmate believed to have been in  a physical altercation with another inmate in a cell. 

Staff started life saving measures and the inmate was transported to an outside medical facility where he was pronounced dead. 

The  inmate that died is being identified at 53-year-old Charles Gattert of Prospect. He was serving a six year sentence for risk of injury to a minor. 

Gattert has been in prison since September 26, 2012. 

The name of the other inmate involved is not being released. 

The cause and manner of death will be determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. 

The Department of Correction and the Connecticut State Police are investigating the death.
