SOUTHINGTON, CT (WFSB) -

Police are investigating after a car slammed into a business building in Southington overnight.

At about 1:10 a.m. on Monday, police said a car crashed into the building at 410 Main St, where the Hair Expo and Awards of Elegance businesses are located.

Later Monday morning, police identified the driver as 23-year-old Tyrone Phoenix, of Waterbury, who was traveling north on Main Street when the car struck the building.

He was later found in the parking lot of the Southington Public Library. The vehicle was not registered or insured and Phoenix did not have a valid license.

The building sustained heavy damage, police said.

An investigation into what caused the driver to crash is underway.

Phoenix is expected to appear in court on Dec. 21.
