Ansonia police have arrested a man after an altercation that happened at Big Y on Sunday afternoon.

When police arrived, they said they found 30-year-old Anthony Tenn screaming and being detained on the ground by numerous Good Samaritans.

Witnesses told police Tenn had allegedly assaulted a woman by grabbing her arms and neck and shaking her violently.

The victim told police she was threatened by Tenn as well.

Tenn was handcuffed by officers, who said he had to be restrained as he was kicking the doors of the vehicle, and also kicked an officer in the face.

Police found Tenn to be in possession of a pocket knife and two small bags of cocaine.

Prior to the assault, police said Tenn tried to enter a vehicle that was parked and occupied in the Bob’s Stores parking lot. The driver and his two children were able to drive away.

Tenn was charged with second-degree breach of peace, second-degree threatening, third-degree assault, assault on a police officer, interfering with an officer, and possession of cocaine.

He was held on a $50,000 bond and is expected to appear in court on Dec. 21.
