Milford police are investigating after two swastikas were found in town.

Police said the swastikas were found either overnight or early Monday morning.

One was found on a tree and another was found on the back of a sign, and both were found in the area of Woodland Road, in the Devon section of Milford.

Police said there is no specific target in that part of town, as there is no synagogue or other places of worship or Jewish cemetery.

Neighbors said they are saddened that their quiet street is the latest target of vandalism.

"I'm just concerned, that's why they targeted that area just because so many different kinds of children play on the basketball courts and the playground and I'm just wondering if it's a good spot. If you're going to make a statement that's a good spot to put it, all these families that use the playground, they will see it," said Sue Stevens, who lives in the area.

This is being treated as an act of vandalism, police said, and the Department of Public Works covered the swastikas up as best as they could.

Police said they will have extra patrols in the area.

"I hope it's a bunch of kids that didn't know what they were doing really," said neighbor John Stevens.
