WETHERSFIELD, CT (WFSB) -

Wethersfield emergency officials responded to the area of the Silas Deane Highway and Jordan Lane after a man was hit by a CTfastrak bus.

The man was hit at about 7:30 p.m. at the corner of the Silas Deane Highway and Jordan Lane.

The victim was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. He is believed to have been a passenger on the bus.

Police closed Jordan Lane to traffic while they investigate.

A spokesman from the Department of Transportation said to the best of his knowledge, this incident would be the first time anything of this nature had happened with a CTFastrak bus.

"Incidents involving CTTransit buses are rare, and incidents involving pedestrians are extraordinarily rare on the statewide bus system," said DOT spokesman Kevin Nursick. "The circumstances are not known at this time, but this is obviously an unfortunate incident."

Wethersfield police are continuing its investigation.
