WEST HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -

Two package delivery men are accused of stealing packages while making deliveries.

Police in West Hartford said Jonathan Mendez, 25, and 21-year-old Antony Ortiz-Malave, both of Hartford, were spotted snatching two packages from a home on Somerset Street Wednesday around 12:30 p.m.

Police said the homeowner confronted one of the suspects, who dropped the packages and fled in a van.

They were able to track the van and found it on Interstate-84. With the help of Hartford police, officers were able to stop it.

Inside were Mendez and Ortiz-Malave, along with another package that police said had been stolen from Westgate Street. About $200 in property was recovered.

Officers determined that the men inside the van were subcontractors for W. B. Mason who were stealing packages while making deliveries.

"I really cant believe how he can do something like this," said neighbor Donna Smith.

Both were charged with sixth-degree larceny and sixth-degree criminal attempt at larceny.

Police urged people to report any suspicious activity in their area and to remove packages from front steps as soon as possible.

They are investigating whether or not Mendez and Ortiz-Malave are connected to other thefts.
