Serious crash closes Berlin Turnpike in Wethersfield for hours

WETHERSFIELD, CT (WFSB) -

A serious two vehicle crash that occurred late Friday night had a stretch of the Berlin Turnpike in Wethersfield closed for hours.

The crash occurred just after 11:30 p.m. near the intersection of Village Drive, officials said.

When firefighters arrived they found two vehicles, both with heavy damage.  The drivers of both vehicles had to be extricated.

Both drivers were taken to area hospitals with unknown injuries.

The Berlin Turnpike remained closed between Jordan Lane and Nott Street for several hours as crews investigated the crash and removed the debris.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation and officials have not identified the drivers involved at this time.
