Victim identified, arrests made in New Britain killing

NEW BRITAIN, CT (WFSB) -

Police in New Britain have identified a man who was shot several times and made two arrests in the case.

They said Benny Jose Rosado, 37, was shot in the area of 450 Main St. just before 5 a.m. on Sunday.

Two men, Reynaldo Caban and Jose Bauza-Negron, face charges in connection with Rosado's death, according to police.

Investigators said an illegal after hours club was being run out of the address. Alcohol was being sold and consumed without any permits or licenses.

It was there eyewitnesses told police that Caban shot and killed Rosado after Rosado pointed a gun at him and had been acting aggressive towards others in the area.

Police said Caban is a convicted felon and does not have a permit to carry a gun. He's facing criminal possession of a firearm and carrying a pistol without a permit charges. Police said due to the circumstances, he was not facing a charge in connection with Rosado's death. However, they are still investigating.

His bond was set at $500,000.

Bauza-Negron is accused of assaulting Rosado after the victim had been shot. Police said he then removed Rosado's gun from the scene before police arrived.

Bauza-Negron was charged with second-degree assault, tampering with evidence, carrying a pistol without a permit and theft of a firearm. His bond was set at $500,000.

Both suspects will be arraigned on Monday at New Britain Superior Court.
