Burr School in Hartford was placed in a precautionary lockdown after shots were fired in the area on Tuesday.
A police investigation was taking place in the area of the school, which is located on Wethersfield Avenue.
There were reports of a heavy police presence in the area of Bond Street, which is near the school.
Police said they were trying to track down a suspect in the area.
Parents said they were unaware of the school going into lockdown until they came to pick up their children and saw police.
One mom said this is the second time in just a few months that a shooting happened this close to school.
"I was terrified, I wanted my son to get out of school, which he did so thank God for that," said parent Stacy Domingo.
There is no longer an active scene in the area, and students have since been dismissed.
