A single mother in Cromwell said a secret Santa has given her family the greatest gift imaginable.
When Ashley Turner woke up on Tuesday morning, she had a pit in her stomach and her son Hunter on her mind.
“I've had a little bit of a financial struggle between rent and paying my bills...doing it all for my 2-year-old son,” Turner said.
Her money problems threatened to prevent her from providing her son with a Christmas morning, and she was heartbroken.
“I think everyone needs Christmas...Christmas is just a happy time for everybody...so even though your struggling financially I think everyone deserves a little bit of Christmas,” Turner said.
Just when she had given up hope, she said she got a phone call telling her to come down to the Kmart in Cromwell because a secret Santa had made sure the Turners would have a little bit of Christmas, by paying for Turner’s final layaway installment.
“I am so very grateful that you were able to do this for me and my family,” Turner said.
The Turners received a whole bunch of toys that Hunter will love, and his mom said she can’t wait to see his face on Christmas morning.
“I can just hear him now screaming turtle, turtle, turtle...he's going to love it,” Turner said.
She added that what the secret Santa really gave her is something money can’t buy—love and hope, just in time for the holidays.
Turner said she hopes next year she is in a better financial position so that she can be a secret Santa for someone else.
