Hundreds of donation baskets made their way to folks in need on Friday.
About 500 food baskets and more than 200 bags of toys were given out to families, seniors and children as part of Groton's holiday distribution event.
Police, local athletes and the town's mayor have pitched in to help.
They unloaded the goods into cars and trucks for the people who could really use them.
"I appreciate it because it adds more," said Janie Carter of Groton. "Sometimes the finances around this time isn't a lot for us, so I think it helps with the groceries and stuff.”
While the meals were a huge part of the event, bikes were also donated to give to children.
“Occasionally there's a child in the car who may see his or her bike in the car before Christmas day and they go crazy...in this way, it's okay," said Director of Human Services Marge Fondulas.
More than 30 volunteers took part in the effort.
It's running until 4 p.m.
