Police are investigating the suspicious death of a 14-month-old baby after child was found unresponsive at a motel in Old Saybrook this weekend.

The incident was reported at the Econo Lodge Inn and Suites located at 1750 Boston Post Rd. on Saturday afternoon.

The unidentified infant was “unresponsive, not breathing.”

"Our officers in the ambulance performed CPR en route to the Middlesex Memorial Clinic in Westbrook. The infant was then transferred to Yale New Haven Hospital," Old Saybrook Police Lt. Kevin Roche said.

The child died on Sunday evening. Police would not comment on the infant's injuries.

"It is unfortunate with such a young victim," Roche said. "You don't want to see anyone victimized, but when someone is helpless as an infant it makes you extremely sad."

Eyewitness News was told the baby's parents are being interviewed about what happened.  Police said Saturday’s death is being deemed “an isolated incident and poses no risk to the public.”

"We're looking for the public's assistance," Roche said. "If they know of anything that happened, we would love to have that information."

Police have not made any arrests. Right now, police are waiting on the results on the autopsy to determine, if charges should be filed.

Anyone with any information about the suspicious death is asked to call the Old Saybrook Department of Police Services at 860-395-3142.
