“This is all Madeline's wish. When she found out that there was no cure for her cancer a couple of weeks ago, she asked people to pay it forward,” said family friend Amy Parulis.
When she was 4 years old, Guarraia was diagnosed with ALL Leukemia.
“Unfortunately we had gotten pass the two-year point where we thought everything was good and we found out at the beginning of December that the cancer was back. But it wasn’t in remission it was a different cancer,” Parulis said.
With the support of many volunteers, Guarraia asked people to donate toys throughout New England, especially for the other children who are sick and didn’t receive many toys.
“We have a lot of Star Wars stuff with the hype of the movie. A lot of Lego sets,” Parulis said.
There were over 1,000 presents and a school bus had to be used to deliver them.
Presents were donated to children at Yale-New Haven Hospital, and other hospitals in Hartford, Boston and Rhode Island.
“Unfortunately there's really nothing that can save her right now. It’s heartbreaking for all of us,” Parulis said.
