ELLINGTON, CT (WFSB) -

The medical examiner's office identified an Ellington woman's cause of death as gunshot wounds to the head and abdomen.

State police said 39-year-old Connie Dabate was identified as the victim of what they called a "suspicious incident" on Wednesday. Her death has been classified as a homicide, according to the medical examiner.

Her husband, 39-year-old Richard Dabate, was also hospitalized for non-life-threatening injuries, troopers said. He's since been released. Police have not said how he was hurt.

"The information that police have released is very guarded, it's very quiet and very under the carpet like, I don't know it's very strange," said Debbie Petock.

State police said they were called the couple's home on Birch View Drive in Ellington around 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday for a "residential alarm." Smoke was found inside the home.

The road was blocked off for most of that day for the investigation. It eventually reopened.

The investigation, however, continues.

Police have told the community that there is no threat to the public, but some residents aren't buying it.

Many people have posted on the Channel 3 Facebook page, saying they want to know if there was a home invasion.

Flowers have since been placed outside the home.

Information about a potential suspect has not been released.
