A traffic stop led to a drug and counterfeit money bust in Tolland Sunday.
State police said a trooper spotted Generoso Mercedes, 52, of Worcester, MA, speeding on Interstate 84 in a Chrysler 300.
The car also had an illegible rear registration, according to the trooper.
While speaking with Mercedes, the trooper said he noticed a possible weapon under the front seat.
Mercedes consented to a search of the vehicle.
Other troopers arrived to conduct the search and found an illegal machete under the passenger seat. Another fixed blade knife was also found.
In the center console, a small gift-wrapped package was discovered, according to state police.
In the "gift" were suspected bags of heroin that were packaged for sale.
A continued search turned up several counterfeit $20 bills, troopers said.
Mercedes was charged with having an illegible plate, possession with intent to sell drugs, possession of a controlled substance, weapons in a vehicle and third-degree forgery.
He was held on a $15,000 bond and scheduled to appear in Rockville Superior Court on Monday.
