MILFORD, CT (WFSB) -

A man accused of sexually abusing a child several years ago was arrested on Christmas Eve, according to Milford police.

James Maher, 45, was found to have inappropriate contact with a juvenile victim between 2008 and 2010 in Milford, police said.

Investigators were first tipped off about the suspected abuse in October. The police department's Special Investigations Unit and the state Department of Children and Families assisted in looking into the case.

Maher turned himself in on Dec. 24 at 9:30 a.m. after being made aware of a warrant for his arrest.

Police charged him with two counts of first-degree sexual assault, two counts of fourth-degree sexual assault and four counts of risk of injury to a minor.

Maher posted a $75,000 bond and faced a judge on Monday.
