Otrobando Avenue was shut down on Tuesday morning because of leak at a food distributor company in the Yantic section of Norwich.

Otrobando Avenue was closed between the Route 2 on ramp and Wawecus Street after an ammonia leak at US Foods.

The building was evacuated after the leak was reported around 3 a.m.

There were no injuries reported to police.

Officials said there was a gaseous ammonia leak from a line on a compressor that is used for refrigeration at a food storage warehouse.

Crews from the Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection were called to scene.

Besides the Yantic Fire Department, firefighters Taftville, East Great Plains departments along with the Groton Sub Base HazMat Team were also called to the scene.
