A stretch of eastbound side of Interstate 84 in Tolland was closed Sunday morning for more than six hours after a tractor trailer caught fire.
Tolland fire officials said the truck which was hauling pallets of chicken caught fire near exit 68.
Mutual aid was requested in from the Crystal Lake Fire Department because of the extremely cold temperatures which took a toll on firefighters and made knocking down the flames difficult.
Crews have since been able to extinguish the fire, but the process of off loading the truck and also deicing the road could take hours, officials said.
State Police were diverting traffic off at exit 67 until about 8:45 a.m. at which time the highway was reopened.
