BRISTOL, CT (WFSB) -

A former Bristol teacher who resigned amid a police investigation was officially arrested on Wednesday.

Mike Archangelo was charged with second-degree harassment and risk of injury to a minor, according to police.

Police did not released the details that led to the charges and said his warrant would remain sealed for 14 days.

Archangelo worked as a physical education teacher for about eight years and a football coach at Bristol Eastern High School for several years, according to parents.

However, police said he resigned in December amid their investigation.

That investigation, according to police, looked into whether or not he exchanged inappropriate photos and texts with at least one 14-year-old student. Investigators have not said if the victim was a boy or girl.

He has not yet released a response to the charges.

"Very sad that someone would take advantage of a minor, especially in the position of authority, position that someone you can look up to and trust," said Scott Nadeau of Bristol.

According to the school superintendent, Archangelo started teaching in Bristol at a middle school in 2004, and two years later he was assigned to the high school.

"We are saddened today to learn of the arrest of former Bristol teacher Mr. Michael Archangelo," said School Superintendent Ellen Solek. "Due to the sensitive nature of this issue, no further comment will be issued from the school district."

Archangelo posted a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to face a judge on Feb. 29.

The warrant in the case was sealed by a judge.
