Police said the pole had a created a “deep dent across the rear roof and roof rack of the vehicle.” The damage extended to the rear passenger's and driver's side doors.
Officers saw the pole was broken at its base.
At the time of the accident, the mother said she was driving when the light pole fell on her vehicle.
Inside the vehicle were her two children including an infant. The older child told police the left side of his head hurt and he felt nausea. He was seated in the rear passenger seat and the roof of the vehicle hit his head.
The mother said she had chest pain.
Both the older child and her mother were rushed to Hartford Hospital for “further evaluation.”
The pole was removed by the members of McPhee Electrical Contractors.
The SUV was towed from the scene.
High winds were reported throughout the entire afternoon, likely the reason that light pole came down. The incident remains under investigation by the West Hartford Police Department.
